Gilbert is a neighborhood of the Phoenix Metro Area that has quite a bit of local and national recognition. This slice of heaven just southeast of Phoenix has recently been named the 7th Safest City and 21st Best Place to Live in the entire United States.
Gilbert, Arizona is an excellent place to live for many reasons. One of the main draws is the town’s strong economy. This area is home to a diverse range of businesses, from small startups to large corporations, which provides residents with plenty of job opportunities. The town also has a low unemployment rate and a strong median household income, making it a great place to start or grow a career.
Gilbert has really transformed; it used to be called Hay Capital and is now known as one of the safest cities to live. This Arizona municipality was only incorporated in 1920, and was done so because of a rail line between Phoenix and Florence, Arizona. The addition of this rail line sparked Gilbert’s nickname; the area used to lovingly be called the “Hay Shipping Capital of the World”. It’s gone from an agriculturally focused territory to a thriving, economically booming and diverse suburb that Phoenix residents consider a wonderful place to live.
Since the 1980’s Gilbert has grown exponentially and is one of the largest towns in the U.S. Literally though, Gilbert’s population grew by 4000%+ in under 40 years! And even with all of that rapid growth, the infrastructure of Gilbert is quite exceptional.
The population growth of Gilbert led to a thriving housing market. The city of Gilbert continues to be an affordable neighborhood to live in Phoenix, but there is potential for it to increase its average cost of living due to its popularity. The median listing price for a home in Gilbert is $575,000.
Another reason to consider living in Gilbert is the excellent education system. The town is home to numerous nationally ranked schools, both public and private, making it a great place to raise a family. Gilbert is also home to several colleges and universities, including Arizona State University’s Polytechnic Campus and Mesa Community College, making it a great place for students and young professionals alike.
Gilbert is known for its abundance of recreational opportunities. The town is home to numerous parks and trails. This includes the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, which offers hiking, fishing, and birdwatching. Gilbert also has a vibrant arts scene, with the Gilbert Performing Arts Center, the Gilbert Historical Museum, and the Gilbert Art Walk. The town also hosts numerous events and festivals throughout the year, including the Gilbert Farmers Market and the Gilbert Jazz Festival.
Part of choosing a place to live, is what there is to do but the other is what kind of jobs are available nearby. Gilbert is home to businesses focused in engineering, science and technology. Many of these companies are in the Aerospace, Bio-Technology and Renewable Energy industries. It’s by far, one of the most advanced areas for reputable, clean energy companies.
